Who should try this experience?

Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you.

To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be in reasonable physical health.

You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. If you make an open water dive, you’ll practice a few more skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure. Get ready to:

• Go over the scuba equipment you use to dive and how easy it is to move around underwater with your gear.
• Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater.
• Learn key skills that you’ll use during every scuba dive.
• Have fun swimming around and exploring.
• Hear about becoming a certified diver through the PADI Open Water Diver course.

Discovery Scuba Diving

Junior Open Water / Open Water Course

Sorte Met Stella Scuba Divers offers PADI open water certification. You’ll do five pool confined water and four open water dives at any of the Island within Malaysia (depending on number of pax and location) under the supervision of a certified PADI Dive Instructor.

Course Pre-requisites: Able to swim 200m, water-tread for 10 mins
Age Requirement: 10 years or older
Course Duration: 4 Days 3 Nights
Course Fees: RM1,150 (Excluding Accommodation Package)

Package includes:

• Full diving equipment rental (BCD, regulator, mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, weights, belt & scuba tank)
• Qualified PADI Diving instructor to conduct all classroom, confined water & open water sessions

 Advanced Open Water Course

PADI’s Advanced Open Water Course introduces divers to a totally different kind of diving experience. Divers are required to complete five different Adventure dives while increasing your confidence and building your scuba skills so you can be more comfortable in the water.

Emergency First Responder

Emergency First Response training focuses on building confidence in lay rescuers and increasing their willingness to respond when faced with a medical emergency. Course participants learn simple to follow steps for emergency care and practice applying skills in a non-stressful learning environment.

All courses are supported by self-study manuals, videos and quick reference cards to enhance learning and allow you start learning right away.

EFR courses meet the CPR and first aid training requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver course and all professional-level ratings. Most PADI Instructors are also Emergency First Response Instructors.

The following EFR courses are based on internationally recognised medical guidelines for emergency care.

 Rescue Course

If you are interested to learn how to handle problems while diving, Rescue Course is what you need. At Sorte Met Stella Scuba Divers, our PADI Instructor will teach you on how to handle and manage problems both on land and underwater, as well as how to perform life saving techniques.

This is both a demanding and rewarding course and some of the skills learnt are self rescue, recognising and managing stress in other divers, emergency management and equipment, rescuing panicked divers and rescuing unresponsive divers.

Students are required to complete 5 theory sessions, 1 Confined Water session.

Course Pre-requisites: Active Emergency First Responder, Advanced Open Water Certification
Age Requirement: 12 years old (Junior) or older

PADI Divemaster

Love scuba diving? Want to share it with others on a whole new level? Take the PADI Divemaster course and do what you love to do as a career. Scuba divers look up to divemasters because they are leaders who mentor and motivate others. As a divemaster, you not only get to dive a lot, but also experience the joy of seeing others have as much fun diving as you do.

The PADI Divemaster course is your first level of professional training. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, you’ll fine-tune your dive skills, like perfecting the effortless hover, and refine your rescue skills so you anticipate and easily solve common problems. You’ll gain dive knowledge, management and supervision abilities so you become a role model to divers everywhere.

As a PADI Divemaster, you’ll lead others as you supervise scuba diving activities and assist with diver training. Whether you want to work at a faraway dive destination or close to home at a local dive shop, the adventure of a lifetime awaits you. PADI Divemasters are respected dive professionals who are aligned with the largest and most respected dive organization in the world – PADI.

Course Prerequisites: PADI Rescue Diver & Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid)

What will you learn?

The wonders of Brunei’s macros has to offer

Kuala Lumpur, April 26: During our trip to Brunei on April 11th, we were impressed with the macros marine life. Though, the initial idea was to explore the four wrecks which is the Cement, American, Australian and the Blue water wrecks or famously known as the “Big Four”.

It begin in 2013 during the Malaysia International Dive Expo (MIDE), my dive buddy, Hafiz Azzad Zubir, a PADI Divemaster and I decided on exploring Brunei dive sites. I took the leisure package and he took the Wreck specialty course package.

So we meet up with Steven Ng (left), the managing director of Oceanic Quest, a 5-star PADI Dive Centre during the expo to arrange for the logistics.

On April 11^th, we took the first flight out, Malaysian Airlines (flight MH 730) to Brunei. Upon arriving there we were greeted by two Oceanic Quest crew who is very friendly and helpful. It took us about 20 minutes drive to the dive centre.

Upon arriving to the dive centre, we were greeted by the friendly Oceanic Quest crew, felt more like a family. First day is more light and easy, sorting out the diving gears and cameras.

There, we met Divemaster Ali Umasangadji (left), one of the best spotter in the world, who is one of the few people who started muck diving in Lembeh, Indonesia. Exchanging notes and experience, he has taught me a lot about marine life macros habitat. Wish I could stay longer to learn more, but another trip to Brunei is already in my mind.

After few days diving in Brunei, I dare say that Brunei has a grade A macros, equivalent those find in Anilao and Lembeh.

Always setup your equipment a day before you dive. Check and double checks especially on the o-rings. You don’t want a leaking camera spoil your trip.
